Harlem’s Studio Museum Reopens in New Building, Bringing Expanded Arts and Community Spaces to Local Residents

On November 7, 2025, Governor Kathy Hochul attended the opening of the Studio Museum in Harlem’s new building. The facility is located in Harlem and represents a $160 million investment in the arts. New York State contributed nearly $11 million, including over $7 million from the New York State Council on the Arts and $3.5 million from Empire State Development, as recommended by the New York City Regional Economic Development Council.

The new building is seven stories and 82,000 square feet. It was designed by Adjaye Associates, with Cooper Robertson as executive architect. The design includes a facade with windows of different sizes, reflecting the neighborhood’s architecture. Inside, there is a top-lit gallery, an interior area for gatherings, and a rooftop terrace with views of Harlem.
