Racing is set to resume Thursday at Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens after officials from the New York Racing Association and the Jockeys’ Guild met earlier this week to discuss the issues that led to riders refusing to ride following the first race of this past Sunday’s card, causing that day’s final eight races to be postponed.
Representatives from both sides met Monday after the jockeys, led by Jockeys’ Guild New York representative Kendrick Carmouche, walked out citing multiple issues with NYRA management.
“The meeting with the Jockeys’ Guild and its representatives was an important step forward, and NYRA was pleased to advance the dialogue around various issues raised by the jockeys on Sunday,” NYRA spokesman Pat McKenna said Wednesday. “That said, NYRA has a core responsibility to protect the integrity of its racing operations for the betting public and racing participants.”…
