State will pay for increased NYPD presence on NYC subways

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – The state will continue to foot the bill for NYPD overtime on subways, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Thursday.

Subway crime is at its lowest level in 16 years, despite an increase in ridership, Hochul said. Even still, the NYPD will maintain an increased presence in the subway system.

“Never in the history of the state has the state of New York invested money in NYPD overtime,” Hochul said. “We’re going to do it again.”
