New York Attorney General Probes Fatal Collision Involving Off-Duty NYPD Officer and Civilian in Nanuet

The New York Attorney General’s Office has opened an investigation into a vehicle incident that occurred last Thursday and resulted in the death of Bravo Nondo. The collision, involving an off-duty NYPD officer, took place around 4:40 a.m. near the New York State Thruway in Nanuet, Rockland County. Nondo was killed in the incident, and the officer received treatment at a local hospital for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

According to the Attorney General’s office, Mr. Nondo had exited a stationary vehicle when the off-duty officer, driving his personal vehicle, was merging onto the thoroughfare, resulting in the fatal collision. Although the incident occurred in the early morning hours, the Office of Special Investigation (OSI) continues to examine the circumstances to determine the factors that contributed to the civilian’s death and the role of the officer in the event.

Under New York State Executive Law Section 70-b, the Office of Special Investigation (OSI) is responsible for reviewing cases in which police or peace officers may be involved in civilian fatalities, regardless of whether the officers were on duty or whether the deceased was armed or in custody.
