N.Y. weather: Black ice threat Wednesday morning; snow likely Friday into Saturday

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Drivers on Staten Island should watch for black ice on roads Wednesday morning as temperatures hover near freezing, according to the National Weather Service. Conditions will improve, with a dry, breezy day expected.

The weather service warns that wet roads from Tuesday’s precipitation combined with temperatures around freezing could create dangerous black ice conditions early Wednesday. Northwest winds will increase through the morning, with gusts up to 30 mph. Temperatures will reach the lower 40s with decreasing clouds as high pressure builds over the region. Winds will diminish by late afternoon.
