NYC commuter says MTA price hikes are costing her $100 per week

For many New Yorkers, this is the first week back to commuting to work in the New Year, and now it’s more expensive.

New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority — known as the MTA — approved price hikes across fares, tolls, and ticketing policies in September, and this has come with a lot of backlash from commuters who rely on the MTA to get to work every day.

Beginning on Sunday, Jan. 4, commuters had to fork out 10 cents more to ride subways, local buses, and Access-A-Ride across the city, increasing the base fare from $2.90 to $3.
