NY transit changes amid massive snowstorm

NEW YORK (PIX11) — A major snowstorm brought significant service changes to New York’s transit systems Sunday and Monday.

MTA officials, Gov. Kathy Hochul, and Mayor Zohran Mamdani urged New Yorkers to avoid all unnecessary travel through Monday afternoon. Hochul encouraged people to work from home on Monday if they can.

If you must travel, here’s a breakdown of transit service changes during the storm:

Long Island Rail Road

The LIRR will operate a modified schedule for the remainder of Sunday.

  • No service between Ronkonkoma and Greenport
  • Hourly service on the Port Washington Branch and between New York City and Huntington on the Port Jefferson Branch
  • Half-hourly service on the Babylon Branch

Metro-North Railroad

Metro-North trains on the Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven Lines are operating on a reduced schedule, running every 2 hours, for the remainder of Sunday. Branch line connections may require longer wait times. Station waiting rooms are open.

NYC Subway

On Monday, subways are expected to run normally during the morning rush hour. The agency said to expect some express trains to run local during the afternoon.

Buses

Expect longer wait times for buses, the MTA warns. Multiple buses are taking detours to avoid hills and trouble spots…
