Deed theft victims demand eviction protection from Gov. Hochul

NEW YORK (PIX11) — New Yorkers swindled out of their longtime homes say they want Gov. Kathy Hochul to freeze their evictions.

“My father and I worked hard, and we scraped, and we saved to purchase our home legally and legitimately,” Rachel Cyprien said outside the Governor’s office about the devastating impact of her 15-year fight to reclaim ownership of her Brooklyn home following deed theft.

“It leads to homelessness and depression and all sorts of failures,” she said. “Here we are, black people in this country for 400 years, constantly starting from square one.”
