MTA reverses course on expanded Hudson Line service after just three months

Less than three months after announcing Metro-North was dipping its toe in the water to extend limited Hudson Line commuter rail service beyond its regular Poughkeepsie terminus to Albany, the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) has called it off.

In a joint announcement last October, state officials and the presidents of both Metro-North and Amtrak announced expanded rail service between New York City and Albany to meet historic demand.

Earlier in 2025, three weekday round trips between Albany and Penn Station were either canceled or consolidated to accommodate repairs to tunnels beneath the East River in New York City damaged in 2012 by Hurricane Sandy.
