From prison to possibilities; allies support reentry assistance bill

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The American prison system is one of the biggest in the world, largely due to the number of low-level drug offenders and people who violate parole.

Research from the Bureau of Justice Statistics shows that there is a very high likelihood that within three years returning citizens will re-engage with the criminal justice system.

“When people are released, immediate support is needed,” Center for Employment Opportunities site director Jarmani Dozier said. “It’s necessary, and critical within the first few days and first few months of their release.”…
