Police oversight board suspends UMass Boston sergeant charged in federal corruption case

The state’s police oversight board suspended the certification of a sergeant in the University of Massachusetts Boston Police Department on Thursday, two days after he was indicted by federal prosecutors on bribery charges.

Edouardo St. Fort, 47, of Taunton, joined the UMass Boston Police Department in 2024 after spending nearly two decades with the New York City Police Department. St. Fort was one of four individuals arrested Tuesday in connection with a corruption investigation involving homeless shelters in New York City.

His certification to work in law enforcement in Massachusetts was suspended by the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission, “in light of evidence that (he) engaged or may have engaged in criminal conduct.” The commission automatically suspends certifications for officers charged with felonies…
