NEW YORK (PIX11) — A man has been sentenced for selling fake temporary license plates to New Yorkers and others in the country, New York Attorney General Letitia James announced Wednesday.
Tyheem Evans, 28, from Brooklyn, admitted to selling over 50 temporary license plates, known as “ghost plates,” through social media, claiming the fake plates were valid in every state, according to investigators.

“Tyheem Evans defrauded drivers and the DMV with a petty scheme to line his own pockets while making our roads less safe,” said James. “I encourage all New Yorkers seeking license plates to follow the legal process and register with the DMV.
