This Staten Island program is tops in state; leaders now taking on Brooklyn and Queens

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Staten Island Performing Provider System (PPS), which acts as the lead entity for the Staten Island Social Care Network, has helped tens of thousands of Staten Island Medicaid members receive free, essential, health-related social services. Addressing critical needs such as food, housing, transportation, and utility assistance, the organization’s goal is to improve overall health outcomes and reduce Medicaid costs in the borough.

And because of the group’s success in reaching that goal, PPS has now been tasked with bringing its successful strategies to Brooklyn and Queens.

“We work with individuals who need care, need food assistance, need housing assistance, need transportation, education…our focus is not so much on the clinical aspects, but rather on the social aspects,” Dr. Joseph Conte, executive director of PPS explained during a recent panel discussion at the Staten Island Economic Development Corporation’s annual Business Conference…
