No one was hurt, but the overnight chaos sent officers racing to the 2000 block of Sunflower Road and kept crime scene tape up into the morning. Police said the public was not at risk once the scene was secured.
How the Call Unfolded
According to the Apex Police Department, officers were dispatched around 12:30 a.m. after a resident reported a possible break-in but could not give a clear address. While canvassing several nearby units and looking for signs of forced entry, officers said they heard two gunshots, followed by a third. That final shot helped them pinpoint the townhome where the incident was unfolding.
Officers entered the residence believing there was an immediate threat to life and later located evidence that multiple rounds had been fired inside. Preliminary findings identify the renter, a 34-year-old man, as the only person who discharged a firearm during the incident, police said.
