RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Gov. Josh Stein on Thursday called North Carolina’s new state budget a historic investment in public safety as it delivers some of the largest law enforcement pay raises in years, and for the first time, bonuses for local officers.
The budget includes average pay raises of 16.2% for state law enforcement officers, 15% for State Highway Patrol troopers, 13% for correctional officers and 6.5% for probation and parole officers.
“The budget provides the largest pay increases for law enforcement in recent memory,” said Stein. “When you cannot recruit and retain officers, the people of this state are at risk. So we have to do everything in our power to support those who keep us safe.”…
