Fugitive in custody after almost 13 years

A multi-agency effort led to the Wednesday, July 22, arrest of a fugitive who had been wanted for almost 13 years.

Monta Jermole Edwards, 39, of 1611 Windsor Village Way in Knightdale, had multiple warrants.

“The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office intelligence unit and warrant squad determined that Edwards has been wanted since Dec. 31, 2013, after being listed as an absconder by the N.C. Department of Adult Corrections for both misdemeanor and felony probation violations. Additionally, Edwards was wanted by the Wilson Police Department for multiple charges dating back to 2016, including five counts of felony obtaining property by false pretense, financial card fraud and several hit-and-run and license-related offenses from 2019 and 2021,” said Major Brandon Barbrey of the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office…
