North Carolina inspectors temporarily took pumps out of service at more than 40 gas stations across Durham, Johnston, Orange and Wake counties this summer after finding issues that could harm drivers.
The problems included damaged hoses, leaking nozzles, unreadable price displays and “meter creep.”
