High water concerns return this weekend

Alerts Issued for Our Region

  • FLOOD WATCH will be in effect from Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning for Raleigh, Fayette, Nicholas, Greenbrier, Pocahontas, Monroe, Summers, Mercer, Wyoming, McDowell, Tazewell and Bland counties. Steady rain will return Saturday afternoon and last into Sunday, which will be capable of re-aggravating streams and creeks in our region. Remember to turn around, don’t drown!

Tonight will be quiet but mild! Temperatures will dip back into the lower 40s with mostly cloudy skies in place. Considering our average high this time of year is in the low 40s, that’s pretty mild compared to normal!

Saturday is shaping up to be a wet day and so is the weekend as a whole, in general. An area of low pressure will work its way up from the lower Mississippi River Valley late Friday and head into the region during the afternoon Saturday. After a few isolated showers Saturday morning, rain will once again become steady as we head into the afternoon, which will persist into Sunday. An additional half inch to one inch of rain is a good bet from this system between Saturday and Sunday as our soggy pattern continues. This will create more instances of ponding on roads and renew the risk for a couple of high water spots.
