In Garner, North Carolina, a tragic incident unfolded at a local Walmart, leading to the death of 29-year-old Colton Valdez. According to Garner police, the incident occurred at the Walmart on 4500 Fayetteville Road.
Family members of Valdez report that he was attempting to defend his mother during a confrontation. They allege that the argument began when the suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, started cursing and yelling at Valdez’s mother as she was maneuvering her car out of a parking spot. In response, Valdez approached the suspect.
The situation escalated when Valdez pulled out a BB gun, which closely resembled a real handgun. The suspect then reacted by drawing a handgun and shooting Valdez. Despite the fatal outcome, the suspected gunman remained at the scene until the arrival of the police.
Currently, authorities have not decided whether to press charges against the suspect. The primary challenge in the investigation appears to be the quality of surveillance footage.
According to Colton’s mother, Kathy Valdez, the cameras at the front entrance of the store provided unclear footage due to foggy lenses. However, clips from different parts of the parking lot were available and offered some visibility, which could be crucial in determining the sequence of events.
