Kia going 100+ mph led N.C. deputies on two-county chase before crashing, sheriff’s office says

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WNCN) — A man was arrested Thursday morning after a pursuit that led deputies from Edgecombe County to Wake County, according to the Edgecombe Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, around 10 a.m. a member of the traffic unit was at a work zone near Rocky Mount when a Kia drove past at an excessive rate of speed over 100 miles per hour.

They said the deputy tried to do a traffic stop but the vehicle kept going and a pursuit ensued. Members of the Nash and Wake County Sheriff’s Offices also assisted with the pursuit.

The sheriff’s office said that the Kia crashed in Wake County near the 432-mile marker near Lizard Lick Road.

William Williams, 59 of Camden, was arrested and charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest and speeding in a work zone.

He was issued a $20,000 secured bond and remanded to the Edgecombe County Detention Center.
