Man apprehended after chase from Edgecombe into Wake

A Camden County man remains jailed under a $20,000 secured bond in the Edgecombe County Detention Center after leading law enforcement officers on a chase for about 40 miles Thursday on westbound U.S. 64 from Edgecombe County into Wake County, the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office said.

William Williams, 59, was taken into custody after the pursuit ended near Exit 432 west of Zebulon, deputies said. According to reports, the chase began near milepost 473, which is southeast of the U.S. 64 interchange for East Raleigh Boulevard.

The sheriff’s office said deputies were assisting contractors in a construction zone when Williams allegedly came through at an excessive speed. The suspect subsequently failed to halt for a traffic stop, the sheriff’s office said.

Nash County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Wake County Sheriff’s Office deputies and the N.C. Highway Patrol assisted with the pursuit.

Edgecombe County sheriff’s jail records online showed Sunday that Williams continues to be held on a charge of felony fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle.
