North Carolina Central University (NCCU) will participate in the National Qualifying Tournament of the 35th Annual Honda Campus All-Star Challenge. This academic contest will occur on February 10 in Baltimore, Maryland. NCCU will compete against other historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). The competition will test students’ knowledge in fields such as history, science, literature, religion, arts, and pop culture.
The NCCU team includes Terrell Parker, Makala Evans, Lauren Johnson, and team captain Jaziah Terrelonge. They aim to qualify for the HCASC National Championship Tournament (NCT) in April 2024. The NCT’s top winner will receive a $75,000 grant. The team members are looking forward to the competition.
The Honda Campus All-Star Challenge has been ongoing since 1989. It is one of Honda’s key philanthropic initiatives in the United States, aiming to honor the academic skills of HBCU students. Honda has given over $9 million in grants for scholarships, facility improvements, and enhancing student experiences.
