The Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau (GRCVB) staff participate in annual community service activities. They collaborate with local organizations like The Green Chair Project, the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, and Designed For Joy. In January 2024, they visited Oak City Cares, an organization that helps those at risk of homelessness.
During the visit, the GRCVB staff donated goods and toured Oak City Cares’ facilities. They learned about the services offered, including washers, dryers, showers, toiletries, phone charging, and health care visits. These services are crucial for those without stable housing.
After the tour, the GRCVB staff helped sort donations like blankets, gloves, and hand warmers. They cleaned toys and surfaces in the family area for the weekend meal services. They met a friend who had been homeless for over a decade and was moving into a new home that day.
Oak City Cares is a partnership that supports homeless individuals. They believe no one should face homelessness alone and work to build trust and connect people to services that can help them find stable housing.
