The Law Enforcement Torch RunĀ® (LETR) is a public awareness initiative and fundraiser for Special Olympics. It brings together people of all abilities and communities worldwide. Chief of Police Jason Armstrong of the Apex Police Department has been involved in this initiative since his early law enforcement days. He has consistently advocated for inclusion and diversity in Georgia, Ferguson, Missouri, and now in Apex, North Carolina. His motivation is to create a better world for his children.

Black History Month, celebrated every February, recognizes the struggles of black individuals. As a graduate of North Carolina Central University, a historically black university, Chief Armstrong promotes black achievement all year round. He is the first black police chief in Apex, a role he sees as a community achievement.

Despite his achievements, he has faced challenges. As the first black chief of police at the Apex Police Department, he has worked to promote diversity and inclusion. He is a member of several advocacy groups, including the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), the North Carolina Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC) Board of Directors.
