Learn which Raleigh grocery store has the best prices with our ‘receipt maker’ tool

Price is a main factor for so many families in the Triangle when heading out to do their weekly shopping. We have 16 major grocers in the Raleigh area, all offering their own selection of discounted, store-brand organic or specialty items for their regular customers.

But who has time to go to all 16 stores and compare prices of those household staples?

We do. And we created an interactive receipt maker to help you price check your own grocery list.

Here’s how you can use it:

  1. Choose the grocery stores you want to compare by selecting them in the top left corner of the tool. You can select individual stores or all of them.
  2. Select the items you’d like to compare across stores. You can select individual items or all of them.
  3. Learn the total cost of all items highlights in yellow at the top of the tool, which will automatically update as you add more items to your “receipt.”

A few things to note:

  • These prices and quantities were taken directly from the shelf of Raleigh grocery stores in early June. To see which specific Raleigh locations we visited, read this story .

  • Some numbers in this tool look different from those in our full database and charts . That’s because we adjusted those numbers to reflect a uniform product size across grocery stores for a more accurate price comparison, even if you can’t buy the item at that price. This receipt maker shows exact prices and sizes of items to help you determine which stores carry the items you want — and show you how much they really cost.

  • Items not sold at a particular store are marked with a zero (“0”) and won’t be calculated in your grocery total, which can make a store’s “receipt price” look lower than others that do carry that item. But if an item isn’t included here, it doesn’t mean the store doesn’t sell other variations of the product — the grocer likely carries a different version for purchase, such as other brands of yogurt cups or organic offerings of boxed mac & cheese.

  • These are regular prices, not sale prices — even if the item was on sale at the time of our visit (and many of them were). Coupons, rewards accounts, credit card cash back offerings and other discounts will lower your overall receipt amount, which this calculator can’t exemplify. Learn more about how you can lower your overall receipt price with our deals guide .

  • The tool includes 15 of the 16 grocery stores we visited to price check. While Weaver Street Market has many locally sourced and farm-fresh items for shoppers, the grocer only had seven of the 40 items on our typical shopping list.

  • This receipt maker also doesn’t include tax , so it’s not reflective of your actual grocery receipt. This tool is intended to help you compare prices across stores using your own personalized grocery list.
