Thousands attend home show at North Carolina Fairgrounds for remodeling ideas as housing market remains sluggish

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The 36th annual “Fairgrounds Southern Ideal Home Show” reopened for business this weekend in Raleigh.

Thousands of homeowners and would-be home sellers showed up Saturday including those taking on home improvement projects while they wait for the housing market to turn around from its current state of more demand than supply.

“I wanna make sure I get the highest market value for my home,” homeowner Shahidah Sabree told CBS 17’s Baron James.

Housing industry insiders say although home renovations can be costly, they also can be well worth the investment.

“Aging in place with remodeling helps you stay where you are until selling while living comfortably,” said Erin Calabritto, the home show manager.

More than 200 vendors, including local home improvement experts and educational demonstrations, are featured at the exposition this year selling practically everything home-related.

“This is not our first time,” renovating homeowner, Dave Kamphius, said. “We’ve come here before and there’s always really good ideas.”
