Chapel Hill restaurant worker shot at while trying to stop man from stealing truck

A Breadman’s employee is safe after a man fired a gun while stealing a pickup truck from the South Elliott Road restaurant, police said.

The employee confronted the suspect, who was stealing from the truck in the parking lot of 261 S. Elliott Road, around 8 a.m. Monday, Chapel Hill police said in a news release. The suspect fired one shot and fled the scene in the truck, which has a Breadman’s decal on it, they said.

The employee was not injured, police said.

They described the truck as a silver 2021 Chevrolet Silverado with a North Carolina license plate, JFC-4180. Anyone who sees the truck can should 911, “and do not approach it,” police said.
