Is Grayson McCall playing vs Clemson? Dave Doeren gives injury update on NC State quarterback

N.C. State quarterback Grayson McCall will not play in the Wolfpack ‘s ACC opener at No. 19 Clemson on Saturday (Noon, ABC), meaning freshman CJ Bailey is set to be the starter.

“CJ’s gonna run the show until Grayson’s healthy,” N.C. State head coach Dave Doeren said Monday during his weekly Zoom press conference, adding that McCall is “day-to-day” with an undisclosed injury.

McCall was injured late in the first half of N.C. State’s 30-20 comeback win against Louisiana Tech in Week 3. The Coastal Carolina transfer dealt with several setbacks during his time with the Chanticleers, including a concussion that sidelined him for the final six games of the 2023 season.

McCall’s injury is “not a season-ending thing,” Doeren added, but the Wolfpack plans to “take it one day at a time” until the N.C. State captain is ready to play.

Doeren said “it’s not a season-ending thing” for McCall.

With McCall on the sideline in the second half against Louisiana Tech, Bailey helped the Wolfpack (2-1) rally from an 11-point deficit in his debut. In his first action at Carter-Finley Stadium, Bailey completed 13-of-20 passes for 156 yards and added a rushing touchdown.
