New tropical system could develop in Caribbean next week

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The National Hurricane Center is watching two areas in the tropics for potential tropical development over the next week.

The new area being monitored is in the northwestern Caribbean Sea, where a broad area of low pressure could form over the weekend. The system could slowly develop while moving north or northwest into the Gulf of Mexico. The next storm will be named Helene.

A second area being watched by the N.H.C. is former Tropical Storm Gordon. Regardless of re-development, the system will remain at sea.
