Best hospitals in North Carolina? These are top places to receive care, report finds

The latest rankings for North Carolina hospitals have been released, with Duke University Hospital in Durham maintaining its position as the top hospital in the state for the 12th consecutive year.

Here’s a look at the top-ranked hospitals in North Carolina, according to U.S. News & World Report:

  1. Duke University Hospital (Durham) – No. 1 in NC, No. 7 nationally for in 10 Children’s Specialties.
  2. UNC Hospitals (Chapel Hill) – No. 2 in NC.
  3. Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center (Charlotte) – No. 3 in NC.
  4. UNC Rex Hospital (Raleigh) – No. 4 in NC.
  5. ECU Health Medical Center (Greenville) – No. 5 in NC.

Pediatric Care Highlights:

  • Duke University Hospital ranked No. 2 nationwide for pediatric cardiology and heart surgery.
  • Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center ranked No. 8 in the same category.

Though North Carolina hospitals scored highly for specialty care, none made the Best Hospitals Honor Roll, which recognizes hospitals with exceptional excellence across multiple specialties.

U.S. News & World Report ranks hospitals based on government data and medical professionals’ input, considering factors like patient outcomes and care quality. Of the 136 North Carolina hospitals evaluated, only 18 met the standards to be ranked.
