A Zebulon woman was charged last week with failing to take care of her adult son with disabilities, as well as with cruelty to animals.
Donella Jones, 69, is alleged to have confined her son to his room, and denied him necessary medication and toiletries, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office says.
Investigators also discovered a malnourished dog on the premises. Wake County Animal Control removed the dog from Jones’s property.
Jones was arrested Wednesday and appeared in Wake County Court Thursday. The charges filed against her include felony neglect of a disabled adult, false imprisonment, cruelty to animals, abandonment of an animal and resisting a public officer.
Jones is being held at the Wake County Detention Center under an $8,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 10.
