Young people in the Boys & Girls Club of Johnston County got to “Shop with a Cop” on Dec. 15.
Thanks to the Johnston County Fraternal Order of Police, 50 children went shopping — 30 from the Selma club and 20 from Smithfield.
Paired with a law enforcement volunteer, each child received $250 for shopping at Walmart in Smithfield.
“This marks the second consecutive year we have been fortunate enough to participate in this event,” said Lynn Stanley, the club’s interim director.
In all, the Fraternal Order of Police donated about $20,000 for the shopping spree. Corey Scarboro, who serves on the Boys & Girls Club board, helped coordinate the event.
