As temperatures continue to drop this winter season, Wake County is extending a warm welcome to those needing shelter.
Beginning Jan. 1, 2025, services at The Bryant Center program will relocate to 5010 Second Street in Raleigh, where it will continue to provide nightly refuge and comfort through the coldest months of the year.
“Lives are at stake during the winter months,” said Chair Matt Calabria with the Wake County Board of Commissioners. “The opening of the Second Street Drop-In Shelter during this season reflects our ongoing commitment to meeting the urgent need for shelter and moving toward a permanent, year-round solution.”
Operated by St. John’s Metropolitan Community Church, the Second Street site will accommodate up to 98 guests seven days a week, with extended hours during white flag weather events—when temperatures drop to life-threatening levels.
The long-term vision for the Second Street Drop-In Shelter includes a focus of meeting people where they are on their journey to long-term housing. Case management staff and care coordinators will be on-site to connect guests with resources, and partner agencies will hold scheduled visits to further support those in need.
