So far, Bill Belichick’s North Carolina staff is a mix of names familiar to the Belichick Cinematic Universe: Steve Belichick, Michael Lombardi, Michael Lombardi’s son, plus one-time Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens.
This newest name is not.
According to Inside Carolina and CBS Sports, Belichick is targeting IMG Academy head coach Billy Miller for a spot on the Tar Heels coaching staff.
Miller has been with IMG Academy since 2014, and his specialty is in special teams, specifically kicking and punting. He worked with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ kickers, punters and long snappers before joining IMG, and spent three years at Rutgers under Greg Schiano prior to following him to Tampa Bay.
Miller was promoted to head coach of IMG’s national team in 2022. The Ascenders won a national championship in 2023.
Hired Dec. 11, Belichick has not formally announced any hires outside of general manager Michael Lombardi. Inside Carolina reported Tuesday that former Patriots strength coach Moses Cabrera and UCF player personnel director Cory Giddings are expected to join the staff in off-field capacities.
