Wake County man charged with 21 insurance-related crimes

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced April 30 that Damain Rayshawn Cummings, 30, of 1401 Chamblee Road, Zebulon, was charged with 21 insurance-related crimes.

The charges included six counts of identity theft, six counts of insurance fraud, six counts of obtaining property by false pretense and three counts of attempting to obtain property by false pretense, according to a press release from the Department of Insurance. All 21 charges are felonies.

According to special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Cummings assumed the identity of six different individuals after obtaining their personal information, either their name and address, birth certificate or email. Cummings filed false auto accident claims under their names with Progressive, State Farm, Liberty Mutual and Allstate insurance companies to try to obtain payment for damage, agents said…
