Clayton Fire Department promotes first female engineer

CLAYTON — The Clayton Fire Department has promoted Rena Smith-Seitz to engineer, making her the first female engineer in the department’s more than 150-year history.

Smith-Seitz joined the department in 2020 at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, she has served on all three shifts and was the most senior firefighter on her truck before completing the department’s engineering qualification earlier this year.
