Clayton Fire Department offers grilling safety tips

CLAYTON — Memorial Day weekend is widely seen as the start of summer, and many residents will celebrate the longer days by grilling outdoors. For those folks, the Clayton Fire Department advises making safety a priority.

Grilling causes an average of 10,000 home fires each year in the United States, according to the National Fire Protection Association. Nearly half of those fires happen in May, June and July — peak grilling season.
