Tanabata Festival June 29 — celebrate Japanese culture in Raleigh

Celebrate Japanese culture at the Tanabata Festival on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 2 to 5 p.m., at Carolina Pines Community Center, 2305 Lake Wheeler Road, Raleigh, North Carolina.

The event is free and open to the public, with a $10 suggested donation per adult.

The festival features:

  • Sumo wrestling
  • Origami
  • Japanese songs and dancing
  • Make a wish on a Tanzaku (narrow strips of colored paper) and tie them to a bamboo tree
  • Mahjong
  • Ukiyo-e (traditional Japanese art)
  • Taiko (Japanese drumming)
  • Workshops and performances
  • Takoyaki snacks
