The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is currently carrying out Operation Firecracker ‘Booze It & Lose It’ with increased patrols to put the brakes on impaired driving, in a campaign that runs through July 6. The NCDOT reports that law enforcement across the state is on heightened alert and is reminding residents that arranging a sober ride home is essential for safety when consuming alcohol.
In addition to highway safety initiatives, NCDOT celebrated the reopening of Chimney Rock State Park, nine months consequent to the wrath of Hurricane Helene. A new temporary road and bridge have been established, allowing residents, and enthusiasts a path back to the natural escape. At the dedication ceremony, NCDOT officials underscored the importance of rebuilding and resilience in the face of natural disasters.
This week saw two North Carolina bridges renamed in honor of fallen officers. According to the NCDOT, the bridge on Parkton Tobermory Road over Interstate 95 in Robeson County has been dedicated to Officer Bobby J. Furmage.
