Tropical Depression Chantal caused major flooding Sunday night into Monday in Durham, specifically the north part of Durham.
This prompted emergency evacuations and water rescues near the flooded Eno River along Rippling Stream Road, where cars and other vehicles were submerged under water.
According to the fire department, the Eno started to rise around 9:30 p.m. before eventually cresting and causing flooding in the area of Roxboro Road and Rippling Stream Road. The Eno River has blown past previous flood records set by Hurricane Fran in 1996.
