Raleigh police officer resigns after allegedly assaulting disabled man

A Raleigh police officer resigned from the department Monday after he was accused of assaulting a disabled man, officials confirmed Wednesday.

Wesley Adam Lane, 37, of Mount Olive is charged with assaulting an individual with a disability and communicating threats in the June 23 incident, according to his arrest warrant. Lane was a sergeant with the Raleigh Police Department who joined the force in August 2010, the department said.

The incident occurred at the Western Sizzlin’ Steakhouse in Dunn, according to a news release. Lane approached another man’s table, picked up a knife from the table and threatened to cut his throat, accusing him of “touching his daughter,” court documents and the release allege…
