Raleigh Braces for Week of Thunderstorms and High Heat, National Weather Service Advises Caution

Raleigh is expected to experience a week of scattered thunderstorms and potential heavy localized rain. Despite a calm morning with few clouds and a mild temperature of 77°F, the heat index is rising toward 102 degrees, with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms primarily between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. today, the National Weather Service reports.

The weather outlook shows continued chances of storms throughout the week, particularly in the afternoons and early evenings. In areas already saturated by previous rainfall, isolated heavy downpours may cause flooding of streets and rising creeks, as per the NWS. Nighttime temperatures are expected to drop to around 74°F with calm winds, accompanied by shorter storms and fewer clouds after dark.

Sunday’s forecast indicates a 50% chance of precipitation along with high heat index values. Expected rainfall amounts range from a tenth to a quarter of an inch, with higher amounts possible during thunderstorms…
