Man faces charges tied to shots fired at sheriff’s deputy

A Rocky Mount man is charged with federal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and is also alleged to have fired at a Nash County sheriff’s deputy late last month, according to federal authorities and U.S. District Court records.

Montrel Ingram, 36, appeared July 8 before U.S. Magistrate Judge Brian Meyers in court in Raleigh because a federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives task force officer signed an affidavit July 3 in support of a criminal complaint.

According to the complaint, around 1:25 a.m. June 29, Ingram was a passenger amid a vehicle stop on Ravenwood Drive in the southwestern part of the city because the driver had failed to activate the car’s headlights…
