RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The FAA is investigating what went wrong at Raleigh-Durham International Airport when one plane had to suddenly go around another on the runway.
The close-call was caught on video last week. In it, an American Airlines plane was taking off as a United Airlines jet was headed toward the RDU runway, then, instead of landing, changed course and flew around it.
The good news, it worked. There was no near miss and no reports of anyone injured.
“When I was flying back in the day, not as a pilot, but as a passenger,” aviation enthusiast John Prichard said as he watched from the RDU Observation Park planes take off and land Tuesday afternoon. “I experienced a couple of go-arounds. So, you know, (it’s) just for safety reasons.”…
