Wake County Motorists Alert, Overnight Detours Scheduled Due to Bridge Work on Major Interchange

Heads up, motorists. If you’re planning to navigate Wakе County’s roads this week, be prepared for some overnight detours due to bridge work on a major turbine-style interchange. According to the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT), there will be scheduled ramp closures at the intersection of I-40, the Triangle Expressway, and I-42 from midnight to 5 a.m. on the nights of August 4 to 6, as long as the weather permits.

The specific ramps affected are the ones leading from I-42 (U.S. 70) West and Triangle Expressway (N.C. 540) East, funneling traffic towards I-42 East or I-40 West. Drivers will need to strategize their routes: they will have to almost constantly detour to I-40 East, and then use N.C. 42 (Exit 312) as a waypoint to swing back to I-40 West.

This infrastructure upgrade is indeed a temporary inconvenience, but it’s a small price to pay for the enhanced safety and durability of our roads. The NCDOT is asking those on the road during these hours to plan ahead, granting themselves some additional buffer time and consider using alternate paths to reach their destinations…
