Neighbors push back against senior apartments

CLAYTON — A parade of neighbors balked at plans for 167 affordable senior apartments and a commercial building on Pritchard Road between Swann Trail and Athletic Club Boulevard.

Lindsay Logan Allen of nearby Stansbury Lane said the proposed apartments had little to offer seniors 55 and older. “The development is being placed in an amenities desert with no senior center, no EMS, a hospital 20 minutes away and no reliable transit access,” she told the Clayton Planning Board on July 28.

Allen noted that the apartments would be across Pritchard Road from a grocery store and pharmacy. But “there’s no safe pedestrian crossing, and we’ve already seen the consequences,” she said. “Our 91-year-old neighbor was hit and killed in October 2024. And shortly afterward, a child 12 years old was hit. And now we’re proposing to add an additional 167 vulnerable seniors in that exact environment with no new safety measures or infrastructure.”…
