Firearm storage calls renewed as school leaders prepare to welcome students for new school year

As the 2025-2026 school year kicks off in late August for thousands of traditional calendar students, safety sits atop the priority list when it comes to students on school campuses.

“Learning? Yes,” said the director of security for Wake County Public School System, Kendrick Scott. “But our responsibility in my view is that when a kid comes here, they go home in the same position they came to school, if not better.”
