Foggy Start to Tuesday Commute
The National Weather Service said visibility could dip below one mile in low-lying areas before sunrise, especially along major corridors like I-40 and local backroads. Transportation officials urged drivers to slow down, keep headlights on, and allow extra following distance during the morning rush.
Overnight readings at Raleigh-Durham International Airport showed 72°F with 94% humidity — a setup likely to repeat Tuesday. Winds are expected to remain light, which may allow fog to linger through the early commute.
Midweek Weather Pattern Shifts
By Tuesday afternoon, skies will turn partly sunny with highs near 82°F. Nights will remain muggy, with lows around 61°F. A shift in air mass midweek will bring drier conditions, with sunny skies and highs near 80°F expected Wednesday.
Clouds are forecast to return late Thursday, but forecasters said most of the state will enjoy clear and comfortable weather heading into the holiday.
