Power back on after squirrel causes outage for nearly 700 Wake Forest customers, officials say

WAKE FOREST, N.C. (WNCN) — Wake Forest Power announced that a small animal triggered a major power outage in the town Saturday morning.

Officials said the outage occurred around 9:30 a.m., affecting 692 customers. Town officials said the cause of the outage was an “unfortunate squirrel” who damaged a transformer in the area of West Sycamore Avenue and Wingate Street.

The impact of the outage was between U.S. Highway 1 and Main Street.

Officials said that crews managed to restore power just after 11:45 a.m. Saturday.
