The Raleigh Police Department reported a decrease in several crime categories for 2025 compared to the previous year, attributing the trend to its Summer Action Plan 2025. The plan increased police presence in nightlife districts, parks, greenways, transportation hubs, and areas around bars and clubs.
According to the City of Raleigh website, as of Sunday, Police Chief Rico Boyce stated that while homicides remained unchanged at 21 incidents, robberies decreased by 6 percent and aggravated assaults by 7 percent. Property crimes also declined, with motor vehicle theft down 27 percent, larceny from motor vehicles down 19 percent, and residential burglary down 14 percent. Commercial burglary rose slightly by 3 percent.
The department emphasized community engagement through initiatives such as the “Cops on the Block” program, youth camps involving about 700 participants, and “Raleigh Hoop Nights,” where officers and youth played basketball together on Friday nights, as per the same release…
